On the arithmetic and geometry of binary Hamiltonian forms
2011
Given an indefinite binary quaternionic Hermitian form $f$ with coefficients in a maximal order of a definite quaternion algebra over $\mathbb Q$, we give a precise asymptotic equivalent to the number of nonequivalent representations, satisfying some congruence properties, of the rational integers with absolute value at most $s$ by $f$, as $s$ tends to $+\infty$. We compute the volumes of hyperbolic 5-manifolds constructed by quaternions using Eisenstein series. In the Appendix, V. Emery computes these volumes using Prasad's general formula. We use hyperbolic geometry in dimension 5 to describe the reduction theory of both definite and indefinite binary quaternionic Hermitian forms.
Characters, bilinear forms and solvable groups
2016
Abstract We prove a number of results about the ordinary and Brauer characters of finite solvable groups in characteristic 2, by defining and using the concept of the extended nucleus of a real irreducible character. In particular we show that the Isaacs canonical lift of a real irreducible Brauer character has Frobenius–Schur indicator +1. We also show that the principal indecomposable module corresponding to a real irreducible Brauer character affords a quadratic geometry if and only if each extended nucleus is a split extension of a nucleus.
Some seminorms on quasi*-algebras
2003
Dieren t types of seminorms on a quasi -algebra (A; A0) are constructed from a suitable family F of sesquilinear forms on A. Two particular classes, extended C -seminorms and CQ -seminorms, are studied in some detail. A necessary and sucien t condition for the admissibility of a sesquilinear form in terms of extended C -seminorms on (A; A0) is given.
Current Algebras as Hilbert Space Operator Cocycles
1994
Aspects of a generalized representation theory of current algebras in 3 + 1 dimensions axe discussed. Rules for a systematic computation of vacuum expectation values of products of currents are described. Their relation to gauge group actions in bundles of fermionic Fock spaces and to the sesquilinear form approach of Langmann and Ruijsenaars is explained. The regularization for a construction of an operator cocycle representation of the current algebra is explained. An alternative formula for the Schwinger terms defining gauge group extensions is written in terms of Wodzicki residue and Dixmier trace.
Extensions of Representable Positive Linear Functionals to Unitized Quasi *-Algebras: A New Method
2014
In this paper we introduce a topological approach for extending a representable linear functional \({\omega}\), defined on a topological quasi *-algebra without unit, to a representable linear functional defined on a quasi *-algebra with unit. In particular, we suppose that \({\omega}\) is continuous and the positive sesquilinear form \({\varphi_\omega}\), associated with \({\omega}\), is closable and prove that the extension \({\overline{\varphi_\omega}^e}\) of the closure \({\overline{\varphi_\omega}}\) is an i.p.s. form. By \({\overline{\varphi_\omega}^e}\) we construct the desired extension.
On the Quadratic Type of Some Simple Self-Dual Modules over Fields of Characteristic Two
1997
Let G be a finite group and let K be an algebraically closed field of Ž characteristic 2. Let V be a non-trivial simple self-dual KG-module we . say that V is self-dual if it is isomorphic to its dual V * . It is a theorem of w x Fong 4, Lemma 1 that in this case there is a non-degenerate G-invariant alternating bilinear form, F, say, defined on V = V. We say that V is a KG-module of quadratic type if F is the polarization of a non-degenerate w x G-invariant quadratic form defined on V. In a previous paper 6 , the present authors described some methods to decide if such a module V is of w x quadratic type. One of the main results of 6 is the following. Suppose that Ž . G is a group with a s…
A Lebesgue-type decomposition for non-positive sesquilinear forms
2018
A Lebesgue-type decomposition of a (non necessarily non-negative) sesquilinear form with respect to a non-negative one is studied. This decomposition consists of a sum of three parts: two are dominated by an absolutely continuous form and a singular non-negative one, respectively, and the latter is majorized by the product of an absolutely continuous and a singular non-negative forms. The Lebesgue decomposition of a complex measure is given as application.
An Estimative Model of Automated Valuation Method in Italy
2017
The Automated Valuation Method (AVM) is a computer software program that analyzes data using an automated process. It is related to the process of appraising an universe of real estate properties, using common data and standard appraisal methodologies. Generally, the AVM is based on quantitative models (statistical, mathematical, econometric, etc.), related to the valuation of the properties gathered in homogeneous groups (by use and location) for which are collected samples of market data. The real estate data are collected regularly and systematically. Within the AVM, the proposed valuation scheme is an uniequational model to value properties in terms of widespread availability of sample …
Kernel theorems in the setting of mixed nonquasi-analytic classes
2008
Abstract Let Ω 1 ⊂ R r and Ω 2 ⊂ R s be nonempty and open. We introduce the Beurling–Roumieu spaces D ( ω 1 , ω 2 } ( Ω 1 × Ω 2 ) , D ( M , M ′ } ( Ω 1 × Ω 2 ) and obtain tensor product representations of them. This leads for instance to kernel theorems of the following type: every continuous linear map from the Beurling space D ( ω 1 ) ( Ω 1 ) (respectively D ( M ) ( Ω 1 ) ) into the strong dual of the Roumieu space D { ω 2 } ( Ω 2 ) (respectively D { M ′ } ( Ω 2 ) ) can be represented by a continuous linear functional on D ( ω 1 , ω 2 } ( Ω 1 × Ω 2 ) (respectively D ( M , M ′ } ( Ω 1 × Ω 2 ) ).
Closedness and lower semicontinuity of positive sesquilinear forms
2009
The relationship between the notion of closedness, lower semicontinuity and completeness (of a quotient) of the domain of a positive sesquilinear form defined on a subspace of a topological vector space is investigated and sufficient conditions for their equivalence are given.
